Not too long ago I was convinced that Twitter was going to implode on itself. People were having trouble figuring out why they were twittering. Now just in the last week there seems to have become this sense of practicality about twitter. People follow people they are interested in and people comment on things that will interest their followers.... now we are talking a tool that can be useful for true crowd sourcing.
There still are the Twitter sceptics and
the twitter loyal still trying to figure this thing out, but I'm starting to feel this tool will in fact have a longer lasting place in the social media space for some time. All of that said, I was sent this bit of information about Twitter that justifies the contrarian view. However, when these types of comments are coming out from the naysayers is exactly when you know a product is in for the long hall. Follow me at twitter.com/whistlermktg
Below are some of the comments from this article on cbc.ca http://www.cbc.ca/technology/story/2009/04/29/tech-090429-twitter-quitters.html
These social networks have some good points, eg., photo sharing. But otherwise they are a huge, huge waste of time to maintain a presence. I believe people should benefit from new tech but should expose themselves as little as possible to marketing, fraud, etc. We are sacrificing our privacy.
Twitter is the most narcissistic internet phenomenon out there today. What could a regular person possibly have to say that is so earth shattering, to the point where I need it sent to me immediately??
Here is part of the problem Twitter execs: You are not filling a vacuum within a needed market. You are trying to create a market for a generally useless product: as with the Oprah and Ashton high profile tweets, they only prove that twitter is basically an extension of TV. A time wasting attention hogging past time with no social merits.
All the media hype about it won't change the fact that Twitter is a useless website. If I want to post or read worthless half sentences that don't make any sense I'll stick with the CBC comments section. Twitter is only useful for quick updates on breaking news, but even then it is confusing and cumbersome. I hope this is the last story I read about it.
Twitter definition, A person who has a compulsion to further the already non productive essence of his/her life by adding yet another useless technological fad to their daily routine.
